Renault Unveils All-New Grand Koleos SUV in Korea, Boasting Hybrid Power and Tech-Packed Interior
Renault has pulled the covers off an all-new SUV, the Grand Koleos – it made its global premiere at the Busan Motor Show in Korea. Measuring about the same size as the Tata Safari, the big SUV comes with a hybrid powertrain and a modern interior full of screens.
Grand Koleos: Built with Collaboration
The Grand Koleos is a bespoke product for Renault. This clearly has been inspired by other Renault SUVs around the world but still is designed especially for the Korean market. Underneath, the platform of this SUV is supplied by Chinese carmaker Geely that holds a big stake in Renault Korea. But this is not all since both firms have come together to form a hybrid powertrain component development joint-venture company. The Grand Koleos is the first of many SUVs to be formatted from this relationship.
Familiar Platform, New Design Touches
The Grand Koleos shares its underpinnings with the Geely Xingyue L SUV sold in China, but Renault has managed to add its own flair in the design department. There's a distinct borderless grille, unique alloy wheels and revised front and rear bumpers compared to the Xingyue L.
Tech-Forward Interior with Triple Threat Screens
Step inside this Grand Koleos and you'll be greeted with a very futuristic dashboard, dominated by three large 12.3-inch screens: one for the important info, like cars; another one serving as the central infotainment system; the last one is reserved for the passenger up front. All of it is combined with a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, and premium finishes in wood and faux-aluminum trim. It comes with a 5G connectivity-enabled infotainment system that also supports over-the-air software updates.
Hybrid Power for Efficiency
Under the hood, the Grand Koleos packs a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with a twin-motor hybrid system, generating a combined output of 245 horsepower. In addition, there are different drive modes and terrain modes so that the best performance is derived on any road condition.

India Prospects: Duster and Bigster on the Horizon
Though Renault has sold the Koleos in India earlier, the Grand Koleos will likely be reserved for Korea alone, at least for now. Renault India has other plans first like the rollout of the Duster and Bigster SUVs due next year. Minor updates to the existing Renault fleet, too, are expected alongside a sporty variant for the Kiger compact SUV.
For the Korean carmaker, Renault Grand Koleos is simply a step up. Counted on strong support from its hybrid powertrain, feature-rich cabin, and collaborative development, it's going to be a pretty interesting product in such a competitive segment of SUVs.
