It has held the palm of the midsize motorcycle segment in India, and has taken a huge 96 percent market share within the 500-800cc category in Q1 FY2025. The bouquet of its 650cc motorcycles, with the Continental GT, Interceptor, Super Meteor, and Shotgun, seems to be an instant hit among Indian riders.
Strong Performance Across the Board
Even though there was a slight decline in overall sales as compared to the previous year, Royal Enfield has maintained its top spot in the midsize segment. The 250-350cc category of the business witnessed a humble decline in sales by 3 per cent, that was being driven by models like the iconic Classic and Meteor. Even the 350-500cc segment—where the Scram 411 and Himalayan 450 sit—also slipped by 14 per cent.
500-800cc Segment: Royal Enfield's Stronghold
It's in the 500-800cc category that Royal Enfield really takes the cake. With an unbelievable 79 percent year-on-year growth rate, it sold 11,943 units. This dominance can be put down to the success of the 650cc twins that really seem to strike a chord with Indian riders wanting a mix of classic styling and modern performance.
Expanding the 650cc Lineup
Royal Enfield is mighty serious about this platform of 650cc, going by what's in the works. It gets ready for the launches of its Classic 650 and Interceptor Bear 650 to further bulk up its offerings in this popular segment.

Competition in Midsize Space
While Royal Enfield leads in the 500-800cc segment, other players such as Kawasaki, Triumph, and Honda jump into the 350-500cc category. Kawasaki—with the Ninja 650 and Versys 650—and Triumph—with the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660—take it slow but surely catch up. That said, Royal Enfield has a strong brand presence to its credit through its diversified product lineup and hence remains unchallenged in the Indian midsize motorcycle market.
The runaway success of Royal Enfield's 650cc range testifies to the fact that there is a growing demand for midsize motorcycles in India. It will be interesting to see how the brand manages to dominate this space while catering to the evolving preferences of Indian riders as the segment grows with more offerings from other manufacturers.
