Kia India announces voluntary recall of certain Kia EV6 electric vehicles manufactured and sold in India. This recall targets 1,138 units manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023.
Potential Issue with Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU)
The defect that has led to the product recall concerns the Integrated Charging Control Unit within the subject vehicles. The ICCU controls the extremely vital feature of the EV6: the process through which the 12-volt auxiliary battery charges. It could lead to malfunction and problems in the performance of the auxiliary battery.
Free Software Update to Fix the Issue
Kia assures owners that a free update in the software will correct the problem. The company has already informed MoRTH and will be directly contacting the owners of vehicles with this problem at its service centers, where the software update will be done free of cost to the customers.
Reaching Out to Affected Owners
Kia EV6 owners can henceforth expect to be contacted by Kia India, which will not only notify them about this recall action but also guide them on how to schedule an appointment with the nearest authorized Kia dealership for this software update to take place.
EV6 Specifications and Rivals
The Kia EV6 is an electric SUV with unbelievable range. It will come powered by a 77.4kWh battery pack, while two options will be available when it comes to powertrains: rear-wheel drive with a single motor and all-wheel drive with dual motors. EV6 has a maximum ARAI-certified range of up to 708 kilometers in a single charge.
In the Indian market, this places the Kia EV6 in contention with entry-level luxury electric SUVs like the BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, as well as the brand-new Mercedes EQA. Naturally, it also eats into the same pie as its close cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Prices for the Kia EV6 currently straddle a band from Rs 64.11 lakh to Rs 69.35 lakh ex-showroom, India.
