It's an all-out, big push on electric vehicles for Audi India. The brand has confirmed an all-new Q6 e-tron electric SUV—one of the most keenly awaited models in India—and here it is: it will be the first locally assembled electric Audi in the country.
Made in India, Competitive Price Point
It will be assembled at the Skoda Auto-VW Aurangabad plant with CKD kits. Now, what this could amount to with this localization is an iris/bootstrap of price for Indian customers. It will be tentatively priced around Rs 85 lakh, ex-showroom, making it quite a player in the luxury electric SUV market.
Slotting in the Luxury EV Segment
The Q6 e-tron fits between the Rs 1.15 crore Audi Q8 e-tron and the Q4 e-tron sold elsewhere. That makes for an excellent spot in the Indian market, currently devoid of direct rivals from other luxury marques.
Performance and Range Options
Audi has announced two worldwide powertrains that will be available for the Q6 e-tron: a dual-motor Quattro AWD with 285kW, equal to 388 horsepower, and also receiving an impressive 625km WLTP-certified range via a large 100kWh battery. Added to this is the single-motor 2WD variant with 240kW – 326hp – that returns an astonishing 641 km range from the same battery.
Though rumors of a smaller battery option are around, that could be announced later, considering the limited success with the lower-spec Q8 e-tron, this would likely leave India getting the higher-performance Quattro variant.
More Powerful Audi EVs to Follow
The Q6 e-tron is just the beginning. Audi plans to introduce even more electric vehicles in India:
SQ6 e-tron (Early 2025): Its twin-motor setup churns out 516 hp for a probable price of ₹1.1 crore. Sportier dynamics are promised, and the range is 598 km WLTP.
RS Q6 e-tron (chance): This might turn out to be an assortment in the not-so-distant future that packs in excess of 600hp, yet the company is hushed about whether the vehicle will come to India.
Q6 Sportback e-tron (confirmation forthcoming): A sleek coupe SUV derivative of the Q6 e-tron could arrive a little later at a slight premium and probably with an even more extended range courtesy of its smooth design.
A6 e-tron Sedan (Late 2025): This electric sedan, based on the same platform—a cousin, really—as the Q6 e-tron, should arrive in India later next year. With the Q6's powertrains, this could boast an even longer range due to its sleek shape. It's worth mentioning that it won't be a direct replacement for the current petrol A6. Under the new naming scheme at Audi, the odd numbers represent the petrol variants and the even represent EVs; hence, the next-gen petrol inland A6 is going to be badged as an A7.
