Nissan is all set to relaunch its new X-Trail SUV on August 1. This is going to be the Japanese car maker's re-entry into the Indian market after a short break.
A Focus on Premium Positioning
The X-Trail will be brought to India as a Completely Built-Up unit, fully imported, placing it in the premium segment against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and, now-discontinued, Jeep Meridian.
Powertrain and Features
Under the bonnet, the X-Trail packs a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol mill that is then harnessed with a 12V mild-hybrid system; this setup is good to make a combined 163 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The power goes down to the front wheels through a CVT automatic gearbox.
Inside, the X-Trail combines comfort with technology. Similarly important features include a panoramic sunroof, two-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging, and a full battery of safety features including seven airbags, traction control, and hill-start assist.
Spacious Three-Row Seating
One major attraction to the X-Trail is its very roomy configuration for three seating rows. The second row is fitted with a 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining feature, while the third row has a setup of 50/50 split-folding and reclining. This therefore assures abundant space for passengers and cargo.
Limited Color Options
The X-Trail also features a very plush interior with a host of premium features but settles for a rather uninspiring exterior color palette—Diamond Black, Champagne Silver, or Pearl White. Rolling on an attractive set of 20-inch alloy wheels, this SUV means business.

Expected Price and Competition
The X-Trail, which is imported in the country and placed as a premium offering, is expected to cost somewhere around Rs 40 lakhs to Rs 45 lakh, ex-showroom. It would lock horns with established players such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian, both of them priced more or less in the same bracket.
The launch of the X-Trail sets the first chapter in India of the premium SUV range by Nissan, which has already somehow created credibility in the minds of the Indian masses. It's also Nissan's next big-ticket product in India before its mainstream models debut in 2025.
The X-Trail is distinctive in its unique proposition, style, space, and contemporary features targeted toward a niche in the highly competitive Indian SUV market.
