The Hyundai Alcazar has crossed an important milestone – crossing 75,000 unit sales in the Indian market since its launch in June 2021. This includes domestic sales, in addition to exports, which cross over more than 1 lakh units.

Strong Performance with Room for Growth

Based on the best-selling Hyundai Creta, the Alcazar features flexible seating for either six or seven people. Whereas on the sales front, there is everything to cheer for, at the same time, there is also scope for better performance. FY2023 proved the best year for Alcazar; more than 38,000 units were produced, and domestic sales exceeded 26,000 units. In contrast, the domestic sales for April to May 2024, the first two months of the current fiscal year, plunged down by over 50% as compared to the same period last year.

Exports on the Rise

On the bright side, however, Alcazar exports have seen quite a substantial jump. In FY2023, exports jumped over 290% from last year. This optimism has been carried through into this fiscal year too, as exports have shown growth of 45% in the first two months.

New Alcazar Facelift Arriving Soon

Hyundai initially planned to bring in the facelifted Alcazar by the middle of 2024 to align it with its third anniversary. It has now been advanced to September-October 2024, making it just in time for the festive season in India. This could be caused by the high inventory level at dealerships of the current Alcazar. Hyundai probably wants to flush out these stocks before getting in the refreshed model.

Facing Stiff Competition

Facelifted Alcazar will lock horns with established rivals like the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus in the mid-size SUV segment. New Alcazar: Refreshed design and host of probable feature enhancements – that's just about what the marquee needs to hold its fort.

For the Hyundai Alcazar, it has clearly returned decent sales figures in its first three years of operations. A facelift approaching and continuous exports could boost Hyundai's prospects with the Alcazar in this very competitive Indian SUV market.
