Honda is increasing the push towards electric vehicles from its base in India with rising demand of the same. Much investment has been made in infrastructure by the company, and it will focus purely on ramping up production capacities. A new facility called "Factory E" is set up at the Narsapura plant in Karnataka by Honda. This will focus on EV motors where the company aims at producing one million units by 2030. Other than this, the company is boosting its existing plants in the states of Gujarat and Karnataka to produce both traditional ICE-powered cars and electric vehicles.
In Bengaluru, 23 stations will be in place in the first phase to be progressed pan-southern states and then all over India. Alongside, Honda's 6,000 service locations would be transformed into workshop E sites that would offer customised servicing, support, and service to EV customers.
At Bengaluru, Honda has also set up a new Solution R&D Centre specializing in the acceleration of the development of EV technology. This facility will emphasize software as well as connected services and collaboration with local companies. The company's new R&D center forms part of Honda's global vision of carbon neutrality, targeting carbon-free production and products by 2050. Here, an important milestone in this end will be to achieve carbon neutrality for its motorcycle range in its entirety by the 2040s.
