MG Motor India is set for two exciting new products in the latter half of 2024: the facelift of the popular Gloster SUV and the all-new Cloud EV. This would come a year after the last big launch of the Comet in April 2023. Encouraged by the fresh investment from JSW, MG has vowed to bring in at least one new model every three to six months.

MG Gloster Facelift

The Gloster, launched in 2020, is due for a mid-life refresh. Expect a full design overhaul, inside and out. The facelift will likely borrow heavily from the Maxus D90 update seen in other markets. Think a bold new front end with a massive hexagonal grille dominated by red accents, flanked by sleek split headlamps. The SUV will boast more prominent wheel arches and rugged cladding for a toughened stance. The rear will get a makeover too, featuring new LED tail lights connected by a light bar and a redesigned bumper. Expect new 18-inch alloy wheels as well, probably with additional chrome accents specific to the Indian market.

Step inside the facelifted Gloster, and you are most likely to be greeted by a revised dashboard sporting a larger touchscreen, redesigned air conditioning vents, and a fresh center console with updated controls. Mechanically, things are expected to remain largely unchanged with the present 2.0-litre diesel engine powering both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.

MG Cloud EV

The Cloud EV is a new addition to the MG family. Sold under the Wuling brand elsewhere, it will be rebadged for India, much like the Comet and its Wuling Air origins. This EV's about 4.3 meters in length and makes for a spacious interior, despite having only two rows of seating. Think large hatchback and compact MPV hybrid. A minimalistic dashboard, large-screen infotainment, and a very interesting sofa mode feature for the front seats to recline back 135 degrees are expected.

The Cloud EV is offered with two battery packs - 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh - that offer ranges of 360 and 460 kilometers, respectively. Powering it is an electric motor mounted at the front that puts out 134hp. Which battery-motor combination will make it to India is yet to be known.

Launch Timeline and Expected Pricing

While official launch dates are not announced, both models are likely to hit the market somewhere during the latter half of 2024, probably during the festive season for one and by the year-end for the other. The Gloster facelift is likely to see a price bump from its current range of Rs 38.80 lakh to Rs 43.87 lakh (ex-showroom). The Cloud EV, meanwhile, is reportedly going to be priced very aggressively under Rs 20 lakh, courtesy of high levels of localization.

MG is all set to bring about an onslaught with its products in the Indian car market. With a refreshed Gloster SUV and the unique Cloud EV, MG is catering to a wider range of customers who demand everything from familiar favorites with a modern twist to exciting new electric options.
