The Tata Sierra is back! Tata Motors revealed the all-new Sierra in a near-production avatar at the Auto Expo 2025. This updated version is expected to hit showrooms in late 2025. Tata Sierra Design: Then vs. Now

The new Sierra has kept some signature features from the original. These include the iconic curved rear-side windows, squarish wheel arches, and a high bonnet. The new Sierra, on the other hand, features stylish 19-inch alloy wheels with thinner tyres, replacing the older model’s thick, high-profile tyres. The new Sierra’s cabin is a leap into the future. It will come with three big screens – a digital instrument cluster and two 12.3-inch touchscreens for the central console and passenger. The sleek four-spoke steering wheel has an illuminated Tata logo, and ambient lighting will add a premium touch. You can also choose between 4-seat and 5-seat layouts.

The original Sierra was much simpler, with a grey plastic interior and a practical 5-seat setup. It had a folding rear bench seat and a large boot for storage. While the old model focused on utility, the new one is all about style and technology.

Tata Sierra Powertrain: What’s Under the Hood?

The old Sierra came with a basic diesel engine at first and later introduced a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel option. This engine produced 91hp and 186Nm of torque and was paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There was even a 4x4 version! However, it wasn’t very fast – it took 22.75 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h, and fuel efficiency was around 9 km/l in real-world conditions.

The new Sierra offers modern and varied powertrains. It will be available as an electric vehicle (EV), along with petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is expected to produce 170hp and 280Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre diesel engine (shared with the Harrier and Safari) will deliver 170hp and 350Nm of torque. Buyers will have the choice between manual and automatic transmission options. While Tata hasn’t confirmed a 4x4 option, the new Sierra’s platform is built to handle off-roading tech.
