Get ready for a new entrant in the Indian SUV market: the Volkswagen Tayron. This seven-seater has just been unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, and will be headed to Indian shores in 2025.
China gets the first bite, India gets a stretched version
While China gets the Tayron in the name Tiguan L Pro with five seats, the Indian market gets a longer, seven-seater version. The extended version is all Volkswagen design language, featuring a slightly rounded look, unlike the Tiguan.
An Aggressive Design with Ample Space
The top-end variant of the Tayron gets an all-but-aggressive front bumper with a contrasting black finish, while the lower trims get a slightly toned-down look. The SUV's profile shares its styling cues with the Tiguan. It has darkened wheel arches and a large glass area. However, the Tayron's dramatically longer wheelbase translates into a much more spacious interior – ideal for families. Rear styling sees a sculpted tailgate, wraparound tail lights with a connecting LED light bar, and a blacked-out bumper.
A Future-Ready Tech-Packed Interior
Upon opening the gate to the interior of the Tayron, you will find a spread inside that is exactly the same as the latest five-seat Tiguan. The minimalistic dashboard is dominated by the screens – possibly as many as three! The main infotainment system, driver's digital instrument cluster, and the optional passenger-side display all make use of Volkswagen's latest MIB4 digital interface.

Luxury Features Galore
The Tayron does not leave out comforts. Top-tier trims see features like power and memory-equipped driver and passenger seats, ten-point massage with heating and ventilation for the seats, wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera system, head-up display, and the latest ADAS to ensure maximum safety.
Powertrain Options: A Chinese Sneak Peek
The Chinese market has two options for the Tayron's engine: a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in two states of tune. Both variants are hooked up with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and with the option of all-wheel drive. The base version outputs 184 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, while the higher-spec variant outputs 217 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
Though an exact powertrain for the Indian market is not yet announced, it can be expected that VW would stick with petrol options for India. The Volkswagen Tayron is based on Volkswagen's new MQB EVO platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kodiaq.
Indian Launch and Rivals
The Volkswagen Tayron is a global model, and when it is launched in India in 2025, it will be locally produced through CKD kits. This SUV would face off against established players in the premium seven-seater SUV segment like the Jeep Meridian and the Skoda Kodiaq.
With its spacious interior, advanced features, and potential power engine options, it will probably prove to be a force in the Indian marketplace.
