First-ever Formula E race vehicles with front and rear powertrains are the Gen3 models and they also do away with the rear hydraulic brakes. The 600kW combined output of the 250kW front and 350kW rear motors is twice as much regenerative power as Gen2 vehicles.

They are about 50 kg lighter and 100 kW more powerful than their predecessors, and they have a 350kW (476hp) output and a top speed of 320kph. The smaller car and shorter wheelbase of the new vehicles have also been engineered to produce better racing.

To cut costs, all 11 teams share a carbon fibre chassis and battery. Businesses may design their powertrains (including the motor, inverter, transmission, and rear suspension). Also new for 2023 is the carbon black and satin white livery with gold accents that will be used on Jaguar's race cars. The asymmetrical design will only be used on these two cars.

Additionally, Jaguar will start supplying Envision Racing with their powertrain technology for the 2023 season. There will be four Jaguar-powered cars on the grid the following year as a result.

Jaguar plans to create JLR EVs using Formula E.

Jaguar has made it clear that it's Formula E activities will keep acting as a useful proving ground for Jaguar Land Rover's electric vehicles, including software technology, sustainability, and electric powertrains. This is in line with JLR's goal of transitioning to an all-electric luxury car manufacturer by 2025.

In the wake of the recent departures of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes, Formula E campaigned for the Gen3 cars to be more important to manufacturers when it comes to technology transfer to road cars. For instance, compared to any equivalent road-going battery, the new battery is substantially lighter and smaller.

The group welcomes Wolfspeed as an authorised Power Semiconductor Partner. In accordance with this partnership, Wolfspeed will supply silicon carbide semiconductors for the next generation of EV inverters from JLR, as well as those from the company's other brands.

According to James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, it is still an honour for us to assist in the transformation of Jaguar into an all-electric brand beginning in 2025.

The lineup of Jaguar Formula E athletes for 2023

In preparation for a season of considerable changes, Jaguar has decided to maintain consistency in its driver lineup by renewing contracts with Mitch Evans and Sam Bird for a third season. Evans, who battled for the championship the entire season, came in second in the 2022 competition. He and Bird helped the team score the most Formula E points to date, which helped them move up to the fourth spot in the standings of the teams.

I've been working extremely hard with the staff to make sure we make the most of this and use it to our advantage, added Evans. With more power and speed, the new Jaguar I-TYPE 6 gives us a lot more to work with, he continued.

The bird was compelled to skip due to an injury. Bird stated that he had utilized the off-season to regroup, return stronger, and become more driven than ever to perform well for the team.

The Gen3 electric vehicles are predicted to be the most potent, effective, and swiftest ever in Formula E.
