Tata Motors is embarking on an exciting series of new car launches, with plans to unveil the face-lifted 2023 Nexon and Nexon EV on September 14. According to insider information, their upcoming model is the Tata Punch EV, and we can expect to hear about its pricing in late October this year.
Tata Punch EV is set to compete directly with the Citroen eC3 in the market. It will occupy a position below the Nexon EV MR (which is the lower-spec variant in the Nexon EV lineup) but above the Tiago EV hatchback. According to sources, it will be marketed as an SUV alternative to the Tigor EV sedan, especially targeting customers who are increasingly opting for the X-Press T fleet variant of the Tigor EV, which has seen significant sales growth.
The Punch EV is set to feature Tata's Ziptron powertrain, and it's likely to become the first Tata electric vehicle with a front-mounted charging socket on the bumper. Additionally, there are discussions about equipping the Punch EV with four-wheel disc brakes, a unique alloy wheel design, and the customary EV-specific styling enhancements to distinguish it from its petrol-powered counterpart.
Inside the vehicle, there will be some cosmetic updates, including the introduction of the new two-spoke steering wheel that was initially introduced with the Nexon facelift. It remains to be seen whether Tata Motors will outfit the Punch EV with the larger 10.25-inch touch-screen infotainment system that is now available in the Nexon.
Powertrain of Tata Punch EV
The Punch EV will utilize the ALFA platform, incorporating Tata's second-generation EV architecture. This platform essentially involves significant modifications for converting internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs). It will feature a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor that drives the front wheels. Similar to the Tigor, Tiago, and Nexon EVs, Tata Motors is considering offering the Punch EV with two different battery capacities and charging alternatives.
Price of Tata Punch EV
When the Tata Punch EV makes its debut in late October, it will enter into competition with the Citroen eC3, priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 12.43 lakh. Tata Motors intends to position the Punch EV as an SUV alternative to the Tigor EV, which falls in the price range of Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh. Therefore, one can anticipate the pricing of the Punch EV to be in a similar range. Further information about the Punch EV is expected to be unveiled as the launch date approaches.
