Here's how MG Motor India is pushing its electric vehicle plans into high gear with the launch of Cloud EV! Backed by a recent investment from JSW Group, MG plans to launch a new vehicle every three to six months, starting later this year. The Cloud EV is said to be one of the first under this ambitious strategy.

Cloud EV: An Electric First Mover with Competitive Pricing

The Cloud EV, currently sold under the Wuling brand in Indonesia and China, will be rebadged as an MG for the Indian market. Just like the MG Comet—a rebadged Wuling Air—the Cloud EV is likely to be aggressively priced to target the sub-Rs 20 lakh bracket. Such strategic pricing will position it against popular options like Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 while staying more affordable than MG's own successful ZS EV. To get to that price point, MG is likely to achieve extremely high levels of localization, including battery pack assembly in the country.

A Unique Blend of Style and Comfort

At approximately 4.3 meters in length and 2,700mm of wheelbase, the Cloud EV adopts a unique blend of MPV-like stance and a practical five-seater layout. It could be described as a spacious cross between a large hatchback and a compact MPV. The clean design philosophy means flat surfaces, flush door handles, and striking full-width LED light bars on both the front and rear. The stepped front end with headlamps placed on the bumper adds a touch of individuality.

But things continue inside, as the Cloud EV is minimalist in its theme. It takes full advantage of being a born electric vehicle, with loads of interior packaging and little clutter. There's a big touchscreen infotainment system leading the charge on the dashboard, accompanied by a digital instrument cluster. The front seats also recline fully, with a 135-degree recline, to go into what is called "sofa mode" for enhanced relaxation. Plus, there's a 360-degree camera for an ADAS suite in some international markets to enhance safety.

Performance and Range Options Yet to be Confirmed

Globally, two battery pack choices are available on the Cloud EV: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh pack that offer 360km and 460 km of range, respectively. Power is delivered through a front-axle mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with 134hp of output. But it will be interesting to see what battery and motor configuration MG decides to use for the Indian market.

Fills a Niche in Electric

Although a tad smaller than traditional MPVs, like the Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens, the Cloud EV occupies a vacant niche in the Indian electric vehicle market. It will most likely be the only all-electric model in this class until the Kia Carens EV makes a debut in 2025. But if MG can deliver sub-Rs 20 lakh price point, the Cloud EV is one of the most exciting new electric vehicles to go on sale in India this year. Packed with affordability, style, and practicality, it could well be a game-changer for MG's electric vehicle ambitions.
