Kia Motors: A Triumphal Match for Kia EV9 with World Car of the Year

The news from the New York Motor Show: the Kia EV9, the flagship electric SUV for the brand, has been named "World Car of the Year" for 2024. This isn't the only award the EV9 is taking home – it also bagged the prestigious "World Electric Vehicle of the Year" accolade.

EV9: Kia Wins In two Awards

The judging panel was highly impressed by the unique design, spacious seven-seater interior, and competitive pricing of the new, debut EV9 on a global basis in March 2023. It was a tough task: EV9 needed to beat out 37 other competitors in terms of the competition, which spread through across the world, to make it into the finals. At the World Car Awards, it eventually managed to break through, bringing it to the top spot. Kia has clinched two more titles with this victory at the World Car Awards. In the past, Kia had taken home the World Car of the Year for the Telluride in 2020, the World Urban Car of the Year for the Soul EV in 2020, and the World Performance Car of the Year for the Kia EV6 GT in 2023.

The Call by Jury of Experts

The World Car of the Year title is something that is quite big. Any and every one who is into automotive news must have heard about that. In this case, it was a jury of 100 distinguished automotive journalists from 29 countries which made the call. India is represented on the jury through Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India, and Renuka Kirpalani, consulting video editor at Autocar India. The World Car of the Year award is a suitably innovative award which carries the following criteria:

- The vehicle must be mass-produced (at least 10,000 units annually).

- The price point should stay below the luxury car segment in its primary markets.

- The vehicle must be available for purchase in at least two major markets across different continents during a specific timeframe (January 1, 2023 to March 30, 2024).

Good News for Indian Car Buyers

The award-winning Kia EV9 will also launch in India later this year. So, this means that shortly Indian car buyers will have an experience of the World Car and Electric Vehicle of the Year.
