The Indian two-wheeler giant, Hero MotoCorp, has really stepped on the gas in a mission to expand its market share in the premium and mid-size motorcycle segments. After a string of successful launches of the Xtreme 125R and the powerful Mavrick 440, Hero is now all set to unveil the two much-talked-about maxi-scooters, the Xoom 125R and the Xoom 160, later this year.
Targeting Premium Segments
Hero MotoCorp has traditionally been a mainstay of the entry-level 100-110cc segment, though their offerings in the premium market have been few. Realizing this shortcoming, in 2023, the company made a strategic turn to fill the void in the 125cc and above segments. Now, this renewed focus is demonstrated in the way the company has gone about product launches in the recent financial year, FY24. Significant among these launches are the ones done in the premium and 125cc segments, such as Xtreme 125R, Xtreme 200S 4V, Xtreme 160R 4V, the Harley-Davidson X440 co-developed with them, Karizma XMR, and its big boy, Mavrick 440.
Introducing the Xoom Series
Hero is aware of the rising demand for premium scooters in India. They have announced launching the Xoom series, with 125cc and 160cc versions, to target this growing segment. The strategic move bolsters Hero's scooter portfolio with the refresh of the current Xoom 110, due in the first half of this financial year.
New Launches and New Formats
According to Hero MotoCorp's CEO Niranjan Gupta, these exciting new launches coupled with the expansion of their premium retail formats, Premia and Hero 2.0, will be a winning combination. He believes that the outcome of this will be aggressive volume growth and market share gains in the premium and 125cc segments.

Gearing Up for Production
Hero MotoCorp is taking proactive steps to make sure they have enough production to supply what will be an anticipated demand for these new offerings. Production of the 440cc platform and the Karizma is being increased to 10,000 units a month in two months, while production of the Xtreme series is also set to increase to 1,000 units per day by June-July 2024.
The strategic shift and commitment to innovation at Hero MotoCorp are pretty clear from the recent launches and increase in production. The highly touted Xoom series, and the focus on the premium segments, position Hero to be more prominent in the future landscape of the Indian two-wheeler market.
