The third and penultimate round of the MRF MMSC Fmsci Indian National Car Racing Championship 2022 concluded at the Madras International Circuit on Sunday with four races and four winners in the top MRF Formula 2000 division and a double win for Coimbatore's ArjunNarendran in the Indian Touring Cars division.
Sohil Shah (Bengaluru), Dillon Thomas Zachariah (Chennai), Sai Sanjay (Salem), and Mohammed Ryan (Chennai) all claimed victories in the MRF F2000 category throughout the weekend.
Dillon, Sai Sanjay, and Mohammed Ryan had to work hard for their triumphs, although Sohil Shah had won the first race with relative ease. Dillon overcame an otherwise poor weekend to earn his first victory of the year, and Ryan defeated Sohil Shah in the following race. To maintain his lead in the championship standings, Sai Sanjay had to defeat Sohil Shah in the fourth race.
Arjun Narendran (Arka Motorsports), who won Race 1, rushed to another impressive victory in the Indian Touring Cars division after starting from P5 on the reverse grid. With his car losing power, championship leader ArjunBalu (Race Concepts) of Coimbatore, who advanced from starting P8, hobbled behind him for a second, and Hyderabad's JeetJabakh (Rayo Racing) completed a distant third in the 12-lap race that was stopped by a Safety Car period.
Akkineni Anand Prasad led Performance Racing to a podium sweep in the Indian Junior Touring Cars division, with Raja Rajan and SrinivasTeja placing second and third, respectively. RiteshRai, another Chennai native driving for Performance Racing, won the Super Stock division to complete a weekend sweep.
In the Formula LGB 1300 category, the seasoned RaghulRangasamy (MSport) overcame stiff opposition to earn his third victory despite starting from position eight on the reverse grid. ViswasVijayaraj (Nellore, DTS Racing), who was paying close attention to Raghul, went off the track at the final circuit while the two were racing wheel to wheel.
Sai Shiva MakeshSankaran (MSport), from Pune, came in second after the incident, while TijilRao (DTS Racing), from Bengaluru, came in third.
Angad Mathroo of Chandigarh won the MRF Saloon Cars (Toyota Etios) division for the second time this year. With the triumph, he closed the gap on championship leader Justin Singh (Gurugram), who came in second ahead of Jai Prashanth Venkat, to just 10 points (Coimbatore).
Later, Sandeep Kumar of Chennai won his fourth straight race in the Volkswagen Polo Cup this weekend to clinch a clean sweep.
The weekend of January 27–29 will see the fourth and final round.
