German motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad is all geared up to add one more product to its fast-growing electric vehicle portfolio in India—the CE 02 electric scooter. The result of a joint development between the German major and TVS Motor Company, and manufactured by the latter, CE 02 is slated for a launch in India during the second half of 2024.

A More Affordable Electric Option from BMW

The CE 02 is being pitched as a more accessible sibling of the BMW CE 04 that came out earlier this year. While the CE 04 was a full import model and pricier for it, the CE 02 will be manufactured locally in India, bringing it into somewhat greater affordability.

However, let us not forget that this CE 02 is not going to come cheap. It would actually come for much more than the existing TVS X electric scooter, which is available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.49 lakh.

Sharing the Stage with the TVS iQube

Interestingly, the underpinnings of the CE 02 are shared with the TVS iQube electric scooter. This partnership between BMW and TVS allowed them to develop an inexpensive electric platform that they can then tinker with and modify for various markets.

Expanding BMW's Electric Vehicle Portfolio

The arrival of the CE 02 is part of BMW's broader strategy to electrify their entire model portfolio. With cars like the i4 and iX already bringing the company so much success in the electric car market, there's actually a pretty strong case for scooters, too.

A Tough Market

The Indian electric scooter market is highly competitive, and one would draw attention toward the established players and the new entrants salivating at a share in the same market. The BMW brand does come with its value, but it needs a solid product that can be competitively priced to be considered as really dominant in this market segment.

Clearly, one of the most anticipated launches in India would be the BMW CE 02 for electric vehicle enthusiasts. How the market is going to react to this premium electric scooter offering is something to look out for.
