Bajaj Auto is all ready to provide its best-selling Chetak electric scooter with an upgrade with new battery cells that promises to return an improved performance. This is part of Bajaj's strategy to make the Chetak more attractive and competitive in the fast-evolving electric scooter market. Along with this upgrade, the two key variants of the Chetak-Premium and Urbane-will have a price cut and be renamed.

New Battery Cells for Enhanced Range

The new battery cells will give the range a boost for the Chetak electric scooters. However, even with this update, the overall capacity of the battery remains the same. These new cells have been introduced with an aim to offer better performance to the riders while retaining the legacy of reliability with which the Chetak comes.

Price Reduction and Rebadging of Variants

In the process, Bajaj will also ensure that the Chetak gets cheaper. The Premium and Urbane will get cheaper by approximately Rs 8,000 each. The new price is likely to place the Chetak Urbane at Rs 1.15 lakh and the Chetak Premium at Rs 1.39 lakh.

Besides the price cut, the variants get a name change. The Chetak Premium will now be known as the "3201" variant while the Urbane is to be referred to as "3202." This is in line with Bajaj's new strategy to refer to the model names by their respective battery capabilities. The name "3201" has been given from the 3.2kWh battery pack that the Premium model was the first to debut.

Strategic Move to Boost Sales

Chetak has gained significantly in sales and currently stands as the third best-selling electric scooter in India. Bajaj had already expanded the showroom network, and as a result of which Chetak has become more easily available, thus making it popular among the masses. With the arrival of these more affordable and renamed variants, Bajaj wants to bolster its position in the market. This pricing strategy, along with the improved battery cells, will no doubt make Chetak a stronger rival to other hot-selling electric scooters like the TVS iQube.

Conclusion

With the introduction of new battery cells and more affordable variants with new names, Bajaj Auto has shown its commitment to remain competitive in the electric scooter market. This price reduction will further make the Chetak more attractive to customers, along with improved performance. Thus, with Bajaj continuing to innovate and expand its offerings, this scooter model is bound to be a strong competitor in the electric scooter segment.
