After numerous online leaks, the third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has finally been made public. According to Volkswagen, the new SUV has undergone extensive restyling and re-engineering and will be on sale overseas next year.
The MQB-Evo platform, which also comprises a sizable number of VW and Skoda models worldwide, serves as the foundation for the new Tiguan. Its platform, as well as many of its upgraded digital and connectivity features, such as the most recent iteration of VW’s MIB infotainment platform and a new over-the-air software update capability, was developed concurrently with the most recent Passat sedan sold overseas, according to VW.
Interior and features of New Volkswagen Tiguan
The third-generation Tiguan gets a redesigned cabin with a cleaner aesthetic, more upscale materials, improved electronics, and more space than its predecessor. These are the biggest changes.
A remodeled dashboard with a new control matrix, illuminated trim pieces, and fresh-looking air vents is one of the many improvements. It offers both a 10.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.9-inch standard or 15.0-inch enhanced centre touch-screen infotainment display.
A backlit slider controller similar to that found on the newest Passat and ID 7 is integrated into the infotainment display. Additionally, a touch-screen air conditioning control system is incorporated into the lower area of the new MIB4 digital menu structure. The steering wheel trades out the cumbersome touch-sensitive capacitive controls of the previous Tiguan for more conventional buttons and switches, a change that Andreas Mindt, head of design at VW, claims will be reflected on other models.
The gear selector has been moved to a stalk situated on the steering column because automatic dual-clutch gearboxes are now standard equipment on all new Tiguan models. According to Volkswagen, headroom has improved by 8mm up front and 10mm back. The standard 652 liter boot capacity for non-plug-in hybrid versions has been increased by 37 liters.
New Volkswagen Tiguan powertrain
A new 1.5-liter mild-hybrid petrol engine with four turbocharged cylinders produces either 131 or 150 horsepower in two front-wheel-drive eTSI variants. There is also a new version of the more traditional 2.0-liter petrol engine, which powers two new four-wheel-drive TSI 4Motion variants with 204 and 265 horsepower, respectively.
The exhaust system of the turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel has undergone extensive alterations. It keeps producing 150 horsepower in front-wheel-drive 2.0 TDI vehicles and 193 horsepower in four-wheel-drive 2.0 TDI 4Motion variants.
Instead of the earlier turbocharged 1.4-liter engine, it is now based on the 1.5-liter engine from the new eTSI vehicles, and it is mated to a more potent electric motor. The 204 horsepower and 272 horsepower of the two front-wheel-drive eHybrid versions remain the same as those they replace.
They are also advertised as having 100km of electric range with a new 19.7kWh battery. Because up to 50kW of DC charging power is available, top-ups will happen much faster. The plug-in hybrid Tiguans has a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the petrol and diesel models have a seven-speed DSG.
Launch timeline of New Volkswagen Tiguan
Although the Tiguan is presently available for purchase in India, it is still unknown whether Volkswagen will export the newest SUV to our country. But Volkswagen will import a brand-new three-row SUV based on the Tayron SUV offered in China to India.
