Rolls-Royce Unveils its First Electric Car

The production of the first electric car of Rolls-Royce will begin in next year. It is longer in comparison to a full-size SUV with two doors. The Spectre has stars in the doors and other humongous options. 

The ultra-luxury car brand has had an amazing feature for years called the “Starlight Headliner,” which fills the ceiling with an arrangement of plenty of thousand lights. The lights are tips of fiber-optic cables that appear like the night sky. The inside of the doors of Spectre has 5,876 stars to surround the occupants with glittering points of light.

The grille of the Spectre is the widest that is ever seen in any Rolls-Royce model. The Spectre is the most aerodynamic, and the company claims it has a drag coefficient of 0.25.  

In an interview with CNN Business, the chief executive of Rolls Royce, Tosten Muller-Otvos, said,” with the Spectre, the brand is going full electric by 2030. It is special similar to the Silver Ghost many years ago, this is the reason we want to make this Car a proper and perfect Rolls Royce. “

The Silver Ghost went into production in 1906 and is considered the Car that established Rolls Royce's reputation as the epitome of automotive quality. 

The Spectre has a basic underlying structure similar to Rolls Royce gas-powered models like the Phantom and Ghost sedans and the Cullinan SUV. It follows the strategy of the parent company, BMW, which relies on flexible engineering in both electric and gasoline cars.

The two doors of Spectre are hinged in the back and open backwards. In contrast, only the back doors open this way in the four-door Rolls-Royce model. The Spectre is called a “super coupe” because of its size & space and is approximately 5 inches wider and six inches longer compared to the last Rolls-Royce coupe named Wraith, which was made earlier this year. With four-wheel steering, the Car will feel quick and light in tight corners. 

Many electric cars come with immensely large touch screens and are used for internal controls, but the Spectre will depend more on physical controls. Muller-Otvos said, “Touch screens have limited use.”

The appearance of yachts influenced the tapered shape of the Spectre. Rolls-Royce unveiled a convertible named Boat Tail last year, and only three were built of approx. $25million each. 

The total weight of Spectre is 6,659 pounds, with more than 1500 pounds of sound-deadening insulation. Normally, automakers try to reduce the weight of electric cars because the batteries add a huge weight, BUT Rolls-Royce is expected to be massive.

Muller-Otvos said, “The Car of 557 horsepower can go from zero to 60 miles an hour in 4.4 seconds and lets you drive 260 miles without recharging in between, and that is enough.”
