MRF confirms long-awaited WRC2 debut with Gill

Three-time APRC title winner Gaurav Gill will embark on a partial campaign in the World Rally Championship-2 category with leading Indian tyre manufacturer MRF

While MRF refused to go into details in the press release confirming the move, it is believed that Gill will compete in the seven remaining gravel rallies on the calendar, the first of which is due to take place in Argentina later this month.

Rallies in Portugal, Italy, Finland, Turkey, the UK as well as Australia also take place on gravel terrain.

It is unclear which car Gill will be driving on his WRC2 foray, but one can reasonably expect him to be behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia R5 - the same vehicle with which he has won his last two APRC titles.

Gill’s WRC2 campaign is likely to come on top of a full season's drive in the Indian Rally Championship with Mahindra. He is also expected to take part in at least one cross-country rally in India.

MRF's decision to enter the WRC2 would likely come at the cost of its APRC participation, although the same is yet to be confirmed by the Indian tyre brand.
