Calling all Mini fans! Mini has finally pulled the wraps off the all-new Cooper 5-door hatchback. Being the latest addition in the Mini family, it now comes with increased space and a punchier engine that makes any car enthusiast crave for just that touch more practicality but without losing the true spirit of Mini-ness.
More Room for Passengers and Cargo
The new 5-door Cooper takes its 3-door brother and brings a crucial difference i.e., extra doors. That means easier access in those rear seats and, in effect, a comfy five-seat set-up. Definitely, it is the best for a small group of friends. But an extra door is not the only change. The 5-door Cooper is also 160mm longer than the 3-door version which gives a very welcome 38mm increase in rear legroom. That's not all – cargo space gets a bump of 65 liters, bringing the total boot space to a useful 275 liters.
Powertrain Options
Available for the 5-door Cooper by Mini are two petrol engine options. The entry-level or basic "Cooper C" variant gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, with 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The setup is very suitable for regular driving; there are no problems bringing the speed from naught to 100 kilometers per hour in a reasonable 8.0 seconds.
The Cooper S variant comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine cranking out 204 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, which is good for a blink-and-miss 0-100 kmph time of just 6.8 seconds for more muscle under the hood.
Focus on Automatics
Unlike all of the previous models, the newest 5-door Cooper does not have a manual transmission option. Mini has gone for automatic gearboxes this time, aiming for a smoother and more convenient ride for a very good percentage of the consumers.
Electric Future Beckons, But Not for the 5-Door
While Mini is embracing electric vehicles, the 5-door Cooper will not be a part of the electric revolution. The role of a five-door electric Mini is being taken by the Aceman EV, built on the same platform as the electric 3-door Cooper.
India Launch on the Horizon
While a launch date has not been specified, Mini India is expected to launch the new 5-door Cooper in the country. The previous generation 5-door was a popular car here in India, and with the new one offering more space and power, it will definitely be another hit.

The Final Piece of the Puzzle
This has come along with the unveiling of the 5-door Cooper, a very significant car for Mini. It is the last car to be unveiled under the leadership of Mini CEO Stefanie Wurst. The baton will now be passed on to Stefan Richmann, who takes Mini towards an exciting future of electrification and new designs.
