Since its launch in 2021, the XUV700 has been one of Mahindra's best-selling SUVs, but it has consistently faced a significant waiting period. As mentioned in our previous report, the waiting period for the XUV700 was as long as 13 months. However, there has been a recent improvement, and the waiting period has now reduced by 3-4 months.

The waiting period for the entry-level MX and AX3 trims is the shortest, with a maximum of 4 months. On the other hand, the top-spec AX7 and AX7L trims currently have the longest waiting period, ranging between 8 and 9 months. The mid-spec AX5 trim, meanwhile, has an average waiting period of 6 months.

Since last November, there has been a significant reduction in the waiting period for the AX7 and AX7L petrol and diesel variants of the SUV, amounting to up to 6 months. Conversely, the waiting period for the MX and AX3 petrol variants has increased by approximately 2 months, while the waiting period for the diesel versions has decreased by around six months. Notably, the gap in waiting periods between petrol and diesel variants has also leveled out.

The decrease in waiting time can be attributed to Mahindra's gradual increase in XUV700 production. The company plans to raise production numbers from 6,000 units to 10,000 units per month by March 2024.

Powertrain of Mahindra XUV700

The XUV700 is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 200hp and 380Nm of torque. Additionally, it offers a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine in two different power outputs: 155hp with 360Nm of torque, and 185hp with 420Nm (450Nm with the automatic transmission).

Both engine options can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The all-wheel drive (AWD) system is available as an option, but it is limited to the diesel automatic AX7 and AX7L variants exclusively.

Price and rivals of Mahindra XUV700

The XUV700 offers a broad price range, beginning at Rs 14.01 lakh and extending up to Rs 26.18 lakh, ex-showroom. Within this price range, it competes with various 5- and 7-seater SUVs, including the Tata Harrier and Safari, MG Hector and Hector Plus, as well as the Hyundai Alcazar.
