The Mahindra Thar 2WD SUV is about to be launched in India. In preparation for the debut, the automaker recently updated its official brochure with images of the most recent Thar off-road SUV model. The SUV will be the more economical option for those intending to buy a Thar. With this variation, the automaker does not offer 4x4 capabilities. Instead, the company will release this SUV with a diesel and gasoline engine powering the rear wheels.

Versions with hard tops will be available for the new Mahindra Thar 2WD SUV. It will receive specific to rear-wheel drive models safety features such as an electronic brake locking differential, ESP with roll-over mitigation, and hill hold and hill descent control. The car's wheel size will offer the choice of 16-inch steel or 18-inch alloy wheels.

The AX Opt and LX are the two varieties of the most recent Thar rear-wheel drive SUVs that will be offered. It will be propelled by a 1.5-liter D117 CRDe diesel engine that has a maximum output of 117 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. There will only be a six-speed manual transmission available with the engine. The 2.0-liter mStallion 150 TGDi engine will be available in the petrol versions. It can provide 150 horsepower of power and comparable torque to diesel models. Additionally, the petrol engine will be paired with either a six-speed manual or an AT gearbox.

Everest White, Blazing Bronze, and Aquamarine are the three new colours that the 2018 Thar SUVs will be available in. Along with the other three options—Red Rage, Napoli Black, and Galaxy Grey—, these colours are available.

Last month, a 1.5-liter diesel-powered Mahindra Thar presentation took place in Igatpuri, Maharashtra.

A five-door version of the Thar SUV is also being developed. The SUV's test model had a hard top with closed lines, which may have been a sign that the future Thar model will have a sunroof.
