Mahindra has just rolled out the Thar Earth Edition, and it's a treat for off-road enthusiasts. With prices starting from Rs 15.4 lakh and going up to Rs 17.6 lakh, this special edition is a bit pricier, costing about Rs 40,000 more than the standard LX model it's based on. But, it's not just any Thar – it's an exclusive 4x4 variant that keeps its robust mechanics but adds a dash of style and uniqueness.

What's New with the Thar Earth Edition?

Dressed in a unique matte ‘Desert Fury’ paint, the Earth Edition stands out with its special badges on the B-pillars and rear fenders, adding to its adventurous spirit. Inside, the theme continues with beige and black dual-tone leatherette seats and dune-shaped line art on the headrests. Adding a touch of elegance, the interior features dark chrome accents on various elements like the steering wheel logo, cupholders, and gear controls.

An interesting touch is the vehicle identification plate inside each Thar Earth Edition, marked with a unique number starting from ‘1’. Mahindra hasn't said if this edition will be limited, but this detail adds a sense of exclusivity.

Under the Hood

The Earth Edition 4x4 Thars is equipped with two potent engines: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces 152 horsepower and 300 Nm, as well as a 2.2-liter diesel engine that produces 132 horsepower and 300 Nm. Performance won't be hampered by the choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission for either engine.

Looking Ahead

Mahindra revealed that, by mid-February 2024, 71,000 reservations—for both 4WD and RWD models—had been made for the Thar. It's important to note that, compared to the over one year waiting period for the diesel RWD cars, there has been less of a demand for 4WD models after the debut of the RWD variation. This has led to a reduced waiting period (4-5 months) for 4WD vehicles. With the introduction of the Earth Edition, Mahindra seems to be attempting to broaden the appeal of the Thar 4WD.

And there's more exciting news for Thar fans – Mahindra has confirmed that a 5-door version of the Thar will hit the market later this year, promising more space for adventure.
