The Swedish motorcycle manufacturer has unveiled the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 as an entry-level model. The Svartpilen 125, like the rest of the Svartpilen and Vitpilenlineups, has a lot in common with the KTM 125 Duke. Because KTM owns the Husqvarna brand, the Svartpilen 125, like other small-displacement KTMs and Huskies, will be manufactured in India at Bajaj Auto's production site in Chakan, Pune.
Bajaj has a 48% interest in KTM. For the time being, the Svartpilen 125 is expected to be presented in Europe, but given the popularity of the KTM 125 Duke in India, the Svartpilen 125 is also quite likely to be available in India.
The Husqvarna Svartpilen125 is based on the KTM 125 Duke's engine and chassis; therefore, it will use the same 125 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 14.3 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 12 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. Unlike the KTM, the Svartpilen 125 has a side-mounted exhaust and high-quality components. Brembo's Indian-made ByBre brakes include a 320 mm front disc gripped by a four-piston caliper. The front forks are 43 mm WP Apex, while the rear shock is a preload adjustable WP Apex with 142 mm travel.
The Svartpilen 125 resembles the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 offered in India in terms of design and dimensions. The photos of the Svartpilen 125 show wire-spoke wheels shod with dual-sport rubber, as opposed to the alloy wheels of the Svartpilen 250. While Bajaj decided to launch the Husqvarna brand in India with the 250s (both Vitpilen and Svartpilen), the Svartpilen 125 is also expected to arrive soon.
Given that the 250cc Huskies are less expensive than KTM 250 Duke, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 is projected to cost around Rs. 1.25-1.30 lakh when it is released in India.
The Norden 901 and Vitpilen 401 are two other upcoming Husqvarna models.
