Congrats, Jehan Daruvala: He bags the F1 test with McLaren at Silverstone this week

The only Indian driver in Formula 2, Jehan Daruvala, has got one step closer to the dream after the announcement of a test session with the McLaren F1 team. India has got the best chance for another F1 driver. Jehan Daruvala will drive the F1 car, the MCL35M this week at Silverstone, with support from the Red Bull junior program. The deal was supported by Red Bull and Mumbai Falcons as well.

The test is a part of a program by McLaren to allow young drivers an opportunity to drive an F1 car and check their ability and expertise in the driver’s seat. As indicated by Jehan, the deal was also upheld by Helmut Marko, the maker and chief of the Red Bull junior program. 

Jehan, presently in his third season of Formula 2 and driving a consistent campaign to be third in the standings, is in the battle for the title this year. He is the top Red Bull junior in the standings, as well as the most senior regarding experience. This news follows after other Red Bull juniors, for example, Juri Vips and Liam Lawson, supplanted him with F1 test and practice sessions recently.

Talking about the opportunity, Jehan said, “I am incredibly grateful for getting this opportunity. Testing in Formula 1 is extremely restricted and opportunities like these are difficult to get, particularly with a championship-winning team like McLaren. This will be my first experience in a Formula 1 car, which I am certain will be exceptional. The support that I have gotten from the Red Bull junior team, my family, and sponsors Mumbai Falcon, combined with this opportunity that McLaren will give me the empowerment to prepare me for achieving my childhood dream of competing in Formula 1”.

This test is tremendous information for Indian motorsport and affirms the way that Daruvala is on the radars of F1 teams, and the day probably won’t be far when we see him in an F1 car.
