JehanDaruvala has been appointed as Mahindra Racing's reserve driver for the upcoming 2023 Formula E season, moving his racing career further. To assist the team with car development, the Indian racer will work on simulators. In addition to working on Mahindra's simulator, Daruvala will attend a few Formula E events.

It simply makes sense for Mahindra Racing to add Daruvala to its lineup as the sole Indian team on the grid. The new Gen3 vehicles will be used for the first time during the following season, which begins in January 2023. Alongside Oliver Rowland, former Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi joins the squad as a driver.

Daruvala previously mentioned his willingness to continue investigating more single-seater series in an interview with Autocar India. He will work in the simulator with Mahindra engineers as part of his reserve driver duties for Mahindra Racing, and he will also be available should di Grassi or Rowland be unable to compete for whatever reason.

Daruvala also intends to attend a few events, including the Hyderabad E-Prix on February 11, the inaugural Formula E race to take place in India.

"I am quite enthusiastic about this new phase of my career because Formula E is a very competitive sport, stated Daruvala. With the brand-new Gen 3 car, Season 9 looks to be interesting. I'm looking forward to learning and contributing, especially to car development and helping the team.

AshaKharga, the chairwoman of Mahindra racing, continued, "We are thrilled to welcome Jehan to our squad. Mahindra Racing has painstakingly worked to promote Formula E on a global scale as a founding member, and we are happy to welcome a talented young Indian race driver to this wonderful sport. Jehan will bring a wealth of knowledge to our development program with his experience and successes in single-seaters.

Career of JehanDaruvala

Daruvala climbed the single-seater ladder quickly. His third Formula 2 season was in 2022. He finished the year in ninth place overall with eight podium finishes and one victory at Monza.

The Indian undoubtedly wasn't expecting to come in seventh for the second year in a row. As a part of McLaren's Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) programme, he did make a couple of F1 test appearances. He is now qualified to apply for an FIA Super Licence, which is required to compete in Formula 1.

Fresh chapter of Mahindra Racing in Formula E

After a few challenging seasons, Mahindra Racing has decided to make a significant managerial change. Dilbagh Gill has been replaced as the team's CEO by Frederic Bertrand, a former FIA director of Formula E and Innovative Sport Projects.

In addition, it will provide ABT Sportsline access to its ZF-developed powertrains when the team rejoins Formula E in 2023, a year away. Mahindra will now have access to data from four vehicles, which might be crucial for development.

Daruvala is probably going to keep competing in addition to serving as a reserve driver for Formula E. The decision as to whether he will stay in F2 or look elsewhere is still up in the air.
