The new model gets a folding fabric soft-top to the track-honed chassis of the Lamborghini Performante, providing a great mix of handling and the more visceral experience of open-top motoring.

It retains the unique body kit of the Performante, with forged carbon-fibre used for the front spoiler, rear wing and prominent rear diffuser. However, the removal of the roof has seen the addition of two rear buttresses, which are identical to those fitted to the regular Spyder and give the car a unique silhouette whether the roof is up or down.

The soft-top takes 17sec to fold away and can be performed at speeds of up to 50kph.

Power comes from the Huracan Performante’s mid-mounted naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10, which develops the same 640hp at 8,000rpm and 600Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, sent to all four wheels. The Spyder’s new roof and electro-hydraulic mechanism add 125kg to the car’s weight, pushing the dry weight up to 1,507kg. Weight distribution does remain 43/57, however.

The added weight sees the 0-100kph sprint take 3.1secs and 0-200kph dash take 9.3sec – 0.2 seconds and 0.4 seconds slower than the coupe, respectively. Top speed remains the same 325kph as the coupe.

Lamborghini’s Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva active aerodynamic system is included without modification. It directs air over the cockpit so effectively that Lamborghini claims the soft-top can adjust the flow of atmospheric particles over the car as well as its hard-top sibling – helping to keep the same top speed.  640hp drop-top Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder is 35kg lighter than standard soft-top model.

The Performante coupe and Spyder share the same chassis setup, using recalibrated settings for its dynamic steering and stability control, and features Lamborghini’s trio of ‘Anima’ drive modes – Strada, Sport and Corsa – that change responses to more aggressive levels.

The Italian supercar marque sells the Huracan Performante in India at Rs 3.97 crore (ex-showroom, India). While there is no word on the drop-top coming to India yet, if it arrives, expect it to cost about Rs 25 lakh more than the coupe model.
