All the world's Jeep fans, gather! A new super power is presently taking over some international markets as Jeep has unveiled a reworked 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine for the Compass lineup, one that transforms the vehicle into a true performance contender.
Turbo Power Unleashed
This is an outstanding engine. Featuring a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol powerhouse, it emits 272 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. To speak of exciting acceleration, the Compass flits from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in a stunning 6.3 seconds.
Engine Tech Explained
In this case, the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine uses advanced technologies such as direct injection and dual variable valve timing (VVT) to optimize power delivery and efficiency for a top speed of 228 kph. For a truly capable driving experience, it is mounted with a smooth shifting 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Jeep has also equipped this Compass variant with standard full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) featuring Mud and Sand modes to conquer all kinds of terrains. To handle the increased power, the car now boasts larger 300mm brake discs, while a type-specific suspension was also tuned for handling and better ride quality.
India Gets a Different Kind of Power Boost
While the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine might be turning heads internationally, Indian Jeep fans should not worry too much about it. Earlier, it was reported that Jeep is going to reintroduce a petrol-powered Compass in the Indian market. However, the engine choice here will be a more compact and fuel-efficient 1.3-liter turbo-petrol unit, expected to deliver around 185 horsepower. This engine is slated for arrival sometime in 2025 and may also be offered on the soon-to-be-revealed Jeep Meridian around the same time.
For the time being, Indian Jeep fans can only dream of the revamped Meridian arriving later in 2024.

While the Indian market waits for its petrol-powered Compass, the global launch of this exciting variant says much about Jeep's commitment to providing performance-enhanced action across its entire product lineup.
