Both Hero MotoSports riders finished in the top ten of the Sonora Rally. Ross Branch placed seventh overall in the elite Rally GP class, while Sebastian Buhler finished tenth.
Ross Branch bagged 7th place in Sonora Rally 2023
The Sonora Rally is noted for its Dakar-style stages, which span five stages across the Sonoran Desert. The race, which spanned approximately 2,300 kilometres, included a variety of terrain, including soft dunes, beaches, river beds, and fast tracks.
Both Hero MotoSports riders were competing in North America for the first time, so they had the added challenge of getting to know the new terrain. Branch, fresh off a good fifth-place finish in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, delivered another consistent effort, finishing in the top ten in all but one stage. He finished eighth in the overall classification, a little over 30 seconds behind the leader.
Daniel Sanders of GasGas won the rally, followed by Honda's Tosha Schareina and Husqvarna's Luciano Benavides.
Sebastian Buhler finished 10th in Sonora Rally 2023
Buhler lost time early on owing to a navigational blunder and difficulties navigating the terrain. "It's our first time here in Mexico, and we are happy to finish well, without any technical issues or crashes," Hero MotoSports team manager Wolfgang Fischer said of the team's performance. The team will now concentrate on preparing for the remaining events of the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship in 2023.
