Next year, Mahindra Racing will field an entirely new driver lineup in Formula E. Nyck de Vries, the 2021 Formula E champion and former F1 driver, has joined the team alongside former Maserati driver Edoardo Mortara. Both drivers have signed multi-year contracts with Mahindra and will be crucial to the team's efforts to return to form.
The M9Electro suffered with reliability and efficiency, causing Mahindra to finish 10th in the championship. Because of the two-season homologation regulation, the team will have to field the identical car in 2024 as well, albeit it can make certain software adjustments to gain additional performance.
Mahindra Racing CEO Frederic Bertrand has stated that the team is focused on the long term, and that a number of major structural adjustments are being implemented. "We expect next year to be another year of development and progress, and in a championship like Formula E, success does not happen overnight." However, the addition of Nyck and Edo, as well as fresh recruits from the rest of the squad, "lays a solid foundation on which we can build," he said.
Mahindra Racing's Formula E Drivers for 2024
Both of Mahindra's 2023 drivers have left the company. Oliver Rowland quit the club in the middle of the season and was replaced for the final few rounds by Roberto Merhi. Meanwhile, Lucas di Grassi just confirmed his departure from Mahindra after only one season. Meanwhile, reserve driver Jehan Daruvala has joined Maserati for a full-time racing role.
The Indian team, on the other hand, has wasted no time in declaring its amended lineup. After a year away, Nyck de Vries returns to the tournament. While his F1 career with AlphaTauri did not go as planned, he adds that returning to Formula E will "feel like coming home."
Despite their previous struggles in the championship, Mahindra today has one of the strongest driver lineups on the field. Both de Vries and Mortara have ten E-Prix victories to their names. De Vries says being a part of the process of returning a squad to winning form was critical in his decision to join Mahindra.
