Brad Binder, twice winner of MotoGP race, is the first South African, who created history by winning premier class.
Brad Binder becomes the first South African to win the Premier class in 30 years and set a benchmark lap time. The well-known track is located north of Johannesburg and is just an hour from his hometown.

Brad Binder has been racing through racing ranks in the world motorcycle Grand Prix, winning Moto3 World Championship 2016 and runner-up in Moto2 World Title Race 2019. Since 2022he has been a leader of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in MotoGP, WINNING AT the 2020 Czech Grand Prix, and the second victory at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix.
Binder got the opportunity to get back to South Africa to set a 'Superlap' on the ongoing 4.529km layout of Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Utilizing a 2019 KTM RC16 the 27-year-old got the opportunity to lap his home circuit at speed, an encounter he depicted as "incredible".
“Today was unbelievable and fun to go out and be able to ride the MotoGP bike around an astounding track. I grew up riding on this track,” said Binder.
"Just to go through Turn 1 at this track is very extraordinary because it's very remarkable, there's nothing else like it out there and it feels cool to be 6th stuff absolutely and hangover on a MotoGP bike. It's extraordinary to realize that we will hold the record for some time I would envision."
As well as lapping Kyalami in another quickest time, Binder managed to ride the race-spec bike on South African streets as a feature of a light-hearted action alters that followed his groundwork for the lap.
Binder added, "It was amazing, I never thought of doing it."
South African rugby skipper SiyaKolisi, 13-time F1 Grand Prix victor David Coulthard and neighbourhood humorist Jason Goliath describe it as more than a racing occasion. "What this does is, it shows our excellence, it shows our way of life," Goliath said.
Australia’s Wayne Gardner at the 1992 South African Motorcycle Grand Prix, was the last rider to set a record lap around Kyalami on a premier class bike.
The last rider to set a record lap around Kyalami on a head-class bicycle was Australia's Wayne Gardner at the 1992 South African Motorcycle Grand Prix. On an alternate track to that raced by Gardner, Binder set the norm for a cutting-edge time MotoGP bike at 1m 42.260s.
Brad Binder and his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing group return to the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Motorcycle Grand Prix. After sealing an astounding win in202, South Africa remained on dry tyres in wet conditions to cross the line in front of its rivals who have pitted for wet tyres.
