The marathon stage of leg 3 turned out to be more treacherous than expected. The stage ran from Mokal to Asu Tar, near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. The 200 Km Leg shook up the grid completely.

10 time Raid de Himalayas winner and defending champion Suresh Rana suffered an engine failure and retired only after 45 Km into the stage. Dakar veteran, CS Santosh also faced the similar fate when he had a fall from his Hero RR450. Though he managed to finish the stage, he was later taken to the hospital where Hero's team manager Wolfgang Fisher confirmed that Santosh would not be taking part in the remaining stages. With two big names out from the cross-country rally, Abhishek Mishra now heads the Xtreme category with a strong lead of 26 m 17 s over Raj Singh Rathore in 2nd position.

Over in Moto, Mare now holds a 9m18s advantage over Santosh, whose time was still good enough to be classified second.
