After withdrawing from the previous Cape Town E-Prix due to rear suspension safety concerns, Mahindra Racing and customer team AbtCupra returned to the grid. Neither team scored any points.

StoffelVandoorne dominated the race from the start. However, the new Brazil street circuit layout took its toll on the leaders, as drivers behind took advantage of the slipstream effect and saved much more energy.

Cassidy and Evans pulled away from the pitch as the laps progressed. Bird, who had risen from 10th on the grid, was making a quick pace behind them. The British driver received a five-place grid penalty after colliding with teammate Evans in the Hyderabad E-Prix. He had to serve the punishment in Sao Paulo because he could not compete in Cape Town due to his qualifying crash.

Evans made a decisive move on Cassidy on Lap 32 to seize the race lead. And he hung on for his first victory of the season, with only half a second separating the top three.Antonio Felix da Costa of Porsche finished fourth, followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of DS Penske. Vandoorne's early laps in the lead left him exhausted in the race's second half, and he finished sixth.

Wehrlein maintains his Formula E championship lead into 2023.

Pascal Wehrlein had to work hard to keep his lead; a brush with the wall in qualifying and a three-place penalty for a collision in Cape Town dropped him to 18th on the grid. Yet he fought through the field to finish sixth and maintain his championship lead.

He was followed by the McLaren duo of Jake Hughes and Rene Rast, with SebastienBuemi of Envision Racing rounding out the top ten.

Wehrlein still leads the standings with 86 points after the race. Jake Dennis is the overall leader with 62 points. Nevertheless, after a collision with Dan Ticktum, the Andretti driver failed to gain any points in Sao Paulo. Nicholas Cassidy is in third place, one point behind Dennis.

With improved rear suspension, all four Mahindra-powered cars returned to action in Sao Paulo. They received no sanctions because the re-homologation was done for safety concerns. However, neither Mahindra nor AbtCupra was able to score a point.

Mahindra willfocus on testing in a four-week gap until the Berlin double-header.
