A New Chapter for Indian Motorsport: The Inauguration of the Madras International Karting Arena

Indian motorsport is geared up for an exciting new development as the Madras International Karting Arena, or MIKA, will be inaugurated by two-time F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen. Located near Chennai, this world-class facility is scheduled to be opened to the racing public on 21 September 2024. This is going to give young racers their first-ever platform in the country to build up their karting skills, thus pushing India's motorsport scenario to the next level.

The Star-Studded Inauguration Event

This is going to be the most technologically advanced, the most impressive high-performance go-karting circuits globally. The inauguration ceremony promises to be an important one, with the inaugural attendee from Finland being Mika Hakkinen.Thursday, September 21, will be an honored day with a glittering list of guests.

 India's only Formula 1 drivers, Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok have made their contribution in making this facility open its doors to mark their glorious beginning. Long-time champions of Indian motorsports, Karthikeyan and Chandhok will be there to grace the occasion and highlight the importance of this new facility.

World-class Karting Circuit

Situated 40 km from Chennai, the MIKA track lies alongside one of India's most interesting racing venues-the Madras International Circuit. The karting circuit is a race around a very fast and furious 1.2km circuit comprising short straights and hidden corners on the racetrack. Chandhok, a track consultant, seems to have great enthusiasm in listening to the concept. "It's been designed to be one of the best tracks in the world and surely enjoyed by the layout drivers," he said. 

Built to Global Standards

There is a building of the Madras International Karting Arena according to international standards so that this track could host major world championship events in the times to come. "Exquisite planning and minute detail involved in the development of the track, it is a matter of tremendous pride to MMSC, " declared Ajit Thomas, president of the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC).

With this quality and safety-oriented approach, MIKA is no longer a karting track but a world-class venue where the motorsport competitions may take place, letting young as well as the professional  drivers to experience the best treatment.
