2024 Indian Racing League: Round 1 at Madras International Circuit

Get ready for the Indian Racing League (IRL) 2024! The much-awaited Round 1 on August 25, 2024, will take place at the Madras International Circuit, near Chennai. This event marks the opening of the series between six city-based teams competing in what has come to be recognized as the world's first gender-neutral, franchise-based racing league.

The Venue: Madras International Circuit

The Madras International Circuit at Sriperumbudur, located near Chennai, is not organizing the motorsports event for the first time. This circuit has challenging turns and straights that assure high speed; it is an iconic track and forms the perfect setting for the opening round of IRL 2024. It will see some of the finest drivers from India and the world using their skills against each other by pushing the limits.

Teams and Drivers to Watch

It is definitely going to get exciting when six city-based teams line up for the challenge. The participating teams would include the following:

  2. Speed Demons Delhi
  3. Goa Aces JA Racing
  4. Hyderabad Blackbirds
  5. Chennai Turbo Riders
  6. Bangalore Speedsters

Akhil Rabindra and Nikhil Bohra from India and other foreign drivers, including the Swiss Neel Jani, an experienced driver who has a line of successes under his belt—a World Endurance Championship and winning the very prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016—are going to drive utilizing all their skills.

As part of this championship, one of the strong contenders who will make a comeback to the competition is Raoul Hyman from South Africa. He dominated the 2023 Car Championship together with his co-driver Sohil Shah. This year, a lot of attention will focus on Fabienne Wohlwend and Gabriela Jilkova in their efforts to match the historic feat attained by Sarah Moore, the first female race winner in the history of IRL.

The Racing Format and Cars

IRL 2024 to have five rounds with the opening round at the Madras International Circuit on August 24-25.
