During the Austrian Grand Prix race, Sergio Perez made an impressive charge from 15th place to finish in 3rd. However, several other drivers faced penalties for exceeding track limits.
Max Verstappen won the Sprint and Austrian GP races at Red Bull Racing's home race. He had a dominant performance throughout the weekend. Charles Leclerc also showed a strong pace and returned to the podium for the first time since April. Sergio Perez took the third-place slot on the podium after making an amazing comeback from 15th place.
Verstappen gained five wins in a row
An early Virtual Safety Car period he has resulted in opposing tire strategies, with Ferrari pitting its two drivers while Red Bull decided to keep Verstappen out. Charles Leclerc momentarily took the lead as a result, but Verstappen quickly regained it and even set the fastest lap on his way to claiming his sixth and seventh victories in a row.
Max Verstappen mentioned that the team decided not to pit during the Virtual Safety Car period and followed their regular strategy, which proved successful. The tire degradation was insignificant, and their stints went perfectly, making it an excellent day for them. Verstappen thoroughly enjoyed the race.
Charles Leclerc finished 5.155 seconds behind Verstappen in second place. However, if it weren't for Verstappen's second pit stop, the gap between them would have been around 30 seconds.
Sainz loses against Perez
It was crucial for Perez to perform well in Austria after a string of disappointing performances. His P15 starting position made things more difficult, but he put in a valiant effort to finish on the podium for the first time since Miami.
Track restriction violations dominated the conversation. Sainz was one of the drivers that was assessed a five-second penalty. Utilizing this to his full advantage, Perez quickly overtook Sainz. The two engaged in a lot of wheel-to-wheel racing before Perez, on lap 61, made a move stick.
Lando Norris finished fifth by outdriving both Mercedes and Aston Martin drivers with an upgraded vehicle. Following him in sixth place was Fernando Alonso, who finished ahead of the Mercedes team of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton was one of many drivers who received a track limits penalty in addition to the Silver Arrows' failure to perform at the Red Bull Ring.
Another driver who received a five-second penalty, Pierre Gasly, came in eighth. For the winning point, Lance Stroll successfully passed Alex Albon at the last second.
Verstappen now holds an 81-point advantage over Perez in the championship standings. Perez, who is in third place, is 19 points ahead of Alonso.
With four races in five weeks, the month of July is one of the most exciting in Formula One. On July 7–9, Silverstone will host the following round.
