Price Point and Competition: How Does the V-Strom 800DE Stack Up?

Motorcycle enthusiasts in India, rejoice! The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE is scheduled to hit showrooms soon, adding further interest to the growing mid-weight ADV segment. The news comes after the motorcycle was spotted testing in India last year and was unveiled at the recent India Mobility Expo.

A powerful engine ready for research

The V-Strom 800DE is built around a new liquid-cooled, 776cc, 270-degree crank parallel-twin engine. This power plant produces a healthy 84.3 horsepower and 78 Nm of torque, providing plenty of muscle to handle paved roads and rough terrain.

Built strong for adventure:

The V-Strom 800DE features solid steel from the GSX-8S. But the sub-frame has been reinforced to handle the extra weight of passengers and cargo, ensuring durability on long journeys. It has a 20-litre fuel tank. Although the seat height is 855mm, most riders can manage it.

Suspension and brakes on any terrain:

Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Showa brass up front and a Showa monoshock at the rear with remote preload adjustment. The brakes consist of two 310mm wheels with four piston callipers at the front and one 260mm wheel with a single piston calliper at the rear. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard, with an option to disconnect the rear ABS for great off-road handling.

Modern features of a modern touring bike:

Unlike its younger sibling, the V-Strom 650XT, the 800DE comes loaded with advanced features expected from a modern touring motorcycle. Riders will benefit from bi-directional quickshifters, four ride modes (including a dedicated gravel mode), three traction control systems, and dual-channel ABS. Additional rider assistance includes Suzuki’s soft effortless starting system and the Low RPM Assist feature, which helps escape smoothly in stop-and-go traffic situations.

Expected value and competition:

When the V-Strom 800DE arrives in India, which is expected soon, it will be priced similar to the Honda Transalp 750, which starts from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom, Haryana). It will also compete with the slightly more expensive (ex-showroom price of Rs 11.95 lakh) Triumph Tiger 850 Sport.

The arrival of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE in India is welcome news for adventure enthusiasts. With its powerful engine, solid cabin, proper suspension, and modern features, the V-Strom 800DE promises to be a solid choice for those looking for a motorcycle that can handle everything from paved highways to challenging off-road adventures. Keep an eye out to know about the official launch date and pricing.
