Following the release of the Ninja 7 hybrid and Z 7 hybrid, Kawasaki seems to be considering broadening its range of hybrid motorcycles. Recently, the company filed a patent internationally, giving a possible glimpse into its plans for more two-wheeled hybrid options. The new patent suggests that Kawasaki might use the same engine and electric motor found in the Ninja and Z hybrid models for this potential addition. Additionally, the design appears to draw inspiration from the Versys models, featuring a similar body style. This move aligns with Kawasaki's strategy of using common engine and frame architecture for various models in their lineup, extending it to their hybrid motorcycles as well.

If Kawasaki were to introduce a Versys 7 hybrid, it could capitalize on the strengths of the hybrid powertrain. The hybrid system could enhance efficiency, extending the fuel range for extended tours. Unlike the sportier Ninja and Z models, the weight of the electric motor might not be as critical for the Versys 7, making it a favorable choice for adventure touring.

Considering the topic of weight, previous reports indicate that the Ninja 7 Hybrid is heavier than the Versys 650. Following this trend, it's likely that the Versys hybrid, if developed, would also be heavier than its comparable Ninja counterpart.

In terms of specifications, one can anticipate the retention of the 451cc parallel-twin engine producing 45hp and 42.6Nm, along with the 9kW motor and associated riding modes. Notably, features like paddleshifters are expected to carry over unchanged, making the Versys hybrid the second mainstream adventure bike, after the Honda Africa Twin DCT, to incorporate this technology.
