The inauguration is believed to get underway in February 2022, but that didn’t happen because of the pandemic and production-related delays. Earlier, February-March was targeted as it is off-season, and there is hope for more drivers to participate, and now it is November-December 2022 due to similar reasons.

Aditya Patel said, “Majority championships take place from April to October. That is why we have postponed it till November. Moreover, the weather conditions are good in most parts of the country, which is fine for us. We are working on it to ensure the event goes off well.” He was apprised that F3 and Wolf cars are in India and that F4 cars will reach India soon.

Level Playing Field

PremaPowerteam, which is well known in junior single-seater racing, has come on board as a technical partner. Prema will prepare and run all cars in both championships, and drivers can show their skills on the track.

Super Licence Points

Drivers in both the championships (F4 AND Formula Regional) will be eligible for Super Licence Points. Indian drivers must collect significant funds to race abroad to collect Super Licence points. The budding racers in India can collect Super Licence points in the country. Patel apprised, “It is the initial step towards gaining Super Licence points to race in F1. F4 drivers, at the age of 15, can begin collecting Super Licence points, and if they perform well, they can be in F1 in their teens. This is why Indians, as well as international drivers, are looking forward to it.”

The Indian Racing Festival is helping Indian racers who look forward to a break in International motorsports. F4 India will allow levelling up from karting to single-seater racing. The winner will have a free drive in the coming year’s Formula Regional Indian Championship. The winner of Formula Regional India will compete in F3 Asia.

Patel apprised that organizers have visited various championships to judge our Talent (karting, racing championships). “We will shortlist talent and finally a scholarship will be given to the drivers who are part of championships.”

Training

All selected Indian drivers will undergo the training process as International drivers are already experienced. The testing is limited for most Indian drivers who race abroad, but it would cost a fraction in India. Drivers in India can perform multiple test days at a lower cost. I believe it will help more drives to participate in more international competitions.

Takeaway

The Indian Racing Festival is the beginning, and RPPL will further skill Indian Talent and transform the country into a real racing hub.
