Big news for all the Nissan lovers out there! The popular X-Trail SUV makes its way back into the Indian market after a brief pause. Get ready to see it rolling into showrooms between June and July this year.
The fourth-gen X-Trail: A Premium Offering
However, this is not just any usual relaunch of the SUV. Nissan is going to bring in the latest, fourth-generation X-Trail which has been making waves in international markets from 2021. For a long time, many spied shots of the X-Trail testing on Indian roads have been doing the rounds, and now, it is official.
Limited Numbers, Petrol Power
However, here's the catch. Unlike the previous generations, this X-Trail will come in limited numbers. Nissan will import the SUV as a CBU, or Completely Built Unit, which means it will be assembled outside the country and then shipped to India. Through this route, they bypass the need to homologate the vehicle—the procedure for getting vehicles certified on Indian roads.
Another important thing to note: the X-Trail will be a petrol-only affair. This comes as a little bit of a surprise as Nissan had showcased a hybrid variant when it took the wraps off the car at an event in 2022.However, market research seems to have driven the decision to focus on the petrol lovers in the market first, though the dealer source says the company is planning other models with a mix of powertrains.
Taking on the Competition
The X-Trail is expected to be a seven-seater SUV and puts it directly in competition with the Skoda Kodiaq. The Kodiaq also comes with seven seats and has the option of a petrol engine, giving the brand a run for its money.
A Sneak into the Future
While these are scanty details, the dealer source revealed that Nissan might also be mulling an introduction in other models with different powertrains in the future. The X-Trail itself is offered in a mild-hybrid guise and a hybrid version dubbed e-Power globally. It is not to forget that in 2022, Nissan unveiled the Juke and Qashqai SUVs, which, incidentally, have varying degrees of electrification. Are these then the next in Nissan's India comeback playbook?

Keeping Brand Buzz Alive
Now, as the Magnite readies itself for a facelift, the launch of the X-Trail hints at Nissan's strategy of keeping the brand visible in the Indian market. Mass-market models may be some time in coming; however, premium CBU products like the X-Trail keep Nissan in Indian car enthusiasts' consideration and imagination.
