Kush Maini, an Indian driver, has had a successful start to his FIA Formula 2 career, finishing in the points in both the sprint and feature races in Bahrain. Driving for Campos Racing, he finished eighth in the sprint race before finishing fourth in the feature race.

The feature race was a disappointing affair for Jehan Daruvala who finished P17.

Kush Maini P4 in Feature Race

Maini finished 14th in the F3 championship last year and is now in F2 with Campos Racing. He achieved the sixth quickest time in his first qualifying session, putting him in fifth place for the reverse grid sprint event. He dropped a few positions at the start but recovered well to finish eighth, while teammate Ralph Boschung won.

He made a much stronger start to the feature race, climbing to second place at the opening corner. Maini stayed in podium contention until the end but had to give way to Zane Maloney, who used his fresher tyres to jump from 18th on the grid to third in the race. Theo Pourchaire won the race from start to finish, beating Boschung.

Maini finished fourth, almost missing the podium. Nonetheless, the Indian scored many points in his first F2 race. He now sits fourth in the rankings with 14 points, one behind Maloney.

Jehan Daruvala has a mixed Bahrain Round

We have two Indians in the F2 grid this year. As Maini is making his debut, Jehan Daruvala will be competing in his fourth F2 season, this time with reigning champions MP Motorsport.

Daruvala fought through the competition to finish sixth in the sprint race after starting 11th on the grid. He commented after the race that he thought his pace was strong enough for a podium finish in the feature race, but that didn't happen. After committing a five-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane, he finished 17th.
