Mini is set to introduce a next-generation iteration of its popular five-door Cooper hatchback, according to a confirmation by CEO Stefanie Wurst. This move is part of a streamlined approach to their core model lineup as the BMW-owned brand prepares for a comprehensive brand overhaul. Notably, Mini recently unveiled the 3-door hatchback, which will offer both electric and petrol powertrains. Initially, there were speculations that the five-door Cooper might be replaced by the upcoming Aceman EV SUV, but this has now been clarified.

Wurst stated, "We're eagerly awaiting the introduction of the Aceman, and there are also plans for John Cooper Works variations. While we've mainly discussed the three-door model, it's worth noting that a five-door version is in the pipeline, alongside a convertible."

The next-generation Mini electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles are built upon distinct and specialized platforms. This approach is expected to extend to the upcoming Mini Cooper five-door model. While it's confirmed that the John Cooper Works variants of the Mini three-door hatch are scheduled for a 2025 debut, there's also a possibility of introducing John Cooper Works versions for the five-door hatch.

Wurst emphasized that the future expansion of the Mini lineup would not involve significant growth. She referred to the plans for a production version of the Mini Urbanaut MPV, showcased at the 2021 Munich show, as currently on hold or "on the back burner."

Mini India lineup

At present, Mini offers the three-door Cooper hatch and the Countryman SUV in India, available in both diesel and petrol variants. While the release of the new Mini Cooper EV three-door is scheduled for next year in India, the arrival of the five-door version is anticipated, although the brand has yet to provide official confirmation.
