Gaurav Gill of India came second at the Madras Motor Sports Club in the second round of the FIA-Asia Pacific Rally Championship (Asia Rally Cup) (MMSC).Gill had collaborated with AniruddhaRangnekar for the first time in his career. Due to heavy overnight rains that rendered the Madras International Circuit (MIC) track water-logged and impassable, two of the four special stages were cancelled for the South India Rally.

Gaurav Gill triumphed in Round 2 of the FIA-Asia Pacific Rally Championship despite adverse weather conditions (APRC). The South India Rally, the first round of the 2023 Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), was also held at the same locationand was won by AroorArjunRao.

Gill was racing for the first time with new co-driver AniruddhaRangnekar. He could only compete in the APRC round because he was driving an imported four-wheel drive Subaru Impreza.

The Toyota Rally squad from Thailand was among the 15 entries in the APRC round. Several participants were caught off guard by this cross-over concept.

Gill, a seven-time national winner and three-time APRC champion, set the pace early on and led at the end of the first day. He lost time due to technical troubles as well as weather that made the stages muddy and slippery.

As overnight rains flooded the track, both loops of the Madras International Circuit stage on Sunday had to be cancelled. As a result, the last day's programme was reduced to only two runs of the Aavisa Stage, which stood up admirably to the heavy rains and remained dry.

Gill stated, “Conditions also changed dramatically. I had a difficult time managing it, and it's no wonder that the Stage was later cancelled because the two-wheel drive vehicles behind us couldn't have made it."

Gill confirmed that he would return for INRC this season and later in the year, he is set to compete in the final round of the APRC in Indonesia. As reigning champions KarnaKadur and Nikhil Pai retired after stalling on the final day, AmittrajitGhosh and co-driver AshwinNaik moved up to third.
