Dolby, the business that invented noise reduction for use in studio, home, and subsequently movie recordings, is quickly expanding into the Indian car market. Dolby's entry into the automotive industry began with Lucid in 2021 and continued with Maybach, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus. It is now present almost everywhere, including the recently released Apple iPhone 15 and high-end television sets as well as high-quality music streaming services. Closer to home, Mahindra is set to launch its new line of electrified vehicles as the first Indian automaker to provide Dolby's services.

In car audio with Dolby

Dolby Atmos Music, a system that essentially enables you to experience both separation and positioning of individual instruments or voices, is something else you can anticipate in automobiles. As an illustration, you might hear the vocalist in the middle and an instrument being performed to the left and to the right. This will correspond to how the instruments are mixed for that particular piece of music.

The new BE line of EVs from Mahindra will feature this realistic sound for the first time. Mahindra will use Harman's 360-degree surround sound hardware (which can be used with a variety of systems), and more expensive models might include speakers on the roof and further within the cabin for a really immersive experience. In addition to three-dimensional sound, the Harman and Dolby partnership may in the future provide navigation cues, reverse camera warning "bongs," and directional audio warning for the autonomous driving aids, among other things.

According to Andreas Ehret, director of Automotive Dolby, "The better the hardware, the better it gets, but it will work well even on mid-level car systems." However, the audio needs to be re-mixed for Dolby Atmos; we are not upscaling the stereo mix. You may anticipate that a lot of popular songs will be re-mixed for Dolby Atmos, especially since competing streaming services compete to offer subscribers the finest auditory experience. Streaming services currently rule the music industry.
