Atiqa Mir: The First Indian Female Racer to Qualify for Rotax Euro Trophy Final

Nine-year-old Atiqa Mir from Kashmir has become the first female India driver to make it into the finals of the Rotax Euro trophy. Competing in the Mini Max karting category for the first time at the South Garda Circuit in Italy, Mir finished 29th out of 46 drivers in the overall classification during Round 4 of the Rotax Euro Trophy. That was not an easy task for the young karter, who had a hard competition and also started in a new category. Though she crashed twice, Mir showed her dedication by moving ahead four positions during the race.

It was her first race at the South Garda Circuit in the Mini Max category. This was a drastic jump from the Micromax category that she has driver till date.

Key highlights at Europe

Mir cannot be considered as a stranger to karting. She had her first competition in 2021. She has competed not only in India, but also in other countries such as UAE and Europe. Also, Mir made more history as she became the world's first lady driver to win a race in the Rotax Challenge International Trophy at the Le Mans Karting International Circuit.

History created at Le Mans

At Le Mans, Atiqa Mir won Race 2 of the Heats in the Micro Max category for the first time. She drove a Lando Norris kart for the Dan Holland Racing Team. It was her maiden race at the famous Le Mans Circuit. There were a total of 36 drivers and Mir secured her spot among the top group of racers, that also included some of the F1 racers.

Mir said this on her victory, "I'm so excited and happy to win the race. My first win was in Europe and we have all worked so hard for it."

Atiqa Mir has been shortlisted for the Iron Dames Young Talents program, a step towards nurturing the women racers of the future. If she gets selected, she will receive a lot of facilities such as training according to the international standards, mentorship and career development in racing. With more races to be organised all over the world, she is ready to set the standards of racing among the racing enthusiasts and make the name of India popular all over the world.
