If you are looking for a rush in life then karting is something you should try. Unarguably, karting is one of the most breath-taking sports that give us the best taste of racing.

Karting is way different from driving your normal cars and hence calls for extra care. So, if you are new to the kart wheels and brakes here’s a guide for you.

Well, in this article I’ll present a few mistakes that are made by rookies but can be corrected with a little practice.

  • Aggressive Steering

Do not aggressively turn your steering wheel. In karting, things are not as easy as they seem to be. Therefore, try to drive smoothly without surprising the kart. Precision combined with smoothness enhances your speed to a great extent.

  • Constant moving of the wheel

The steering of karts is extremely sensitive; a little movement of your hands can change your direction completely. Hence, always place your hands in a quarter to three positions while driving. This will help you to maintain a firm balance and will enable you to slide faster.

  • Sticking to a single track

Despite the white marking of the tracks, you are allowed to use every inch of the road. Always remember that the wider you move the more speed you will be able to carry.

  • Braking softly

Unlike cars, kart brakes act only on the rear wheels. Hence, to brake properly in a kart practice the opposite you do on a road. Initially, lock them by hitting them hard and then gradually release them as you reach closer to the apex of the corner.

  • Judging the upcoming few meters only

While karting you should always look one level ahead to have a proper start. Having a broader vision of the tracks in your mind will enhance your performance greatly.

  • Turning in early

If you feel like losing your speed or sliding too wide make sure to slow down your kart a bit instead of turning in early. Once you slow down try to regain the speed and then turn to aim for the later apex.

  • Avoid competing with fast Karters

Go slow and never try to get out of your way. Don’t get irritated or impressed by the fast and experienced karters and follow them. Always keep in mind that they have been practising it for ages and if you implement a good amount of hard work in the same, you can even be better than them.

Therefore, instead of chasing them, focus on your driving. Moreover, by minding your own business you can not only improve yourself but also can prevent accidents.

So, these were the mistakes that you should avoid as a beginner to outrank your friends or have a career in karting. Relishing the thrills of karting, there’s a line that says, “Eat, Sleep, Go-Kart and Repeat”.
